Fringe week sees Oundle thronged with entertainers of all genres’ in the town’s pubs, hotels, cafes and streets. You will find anything from tribute bands to poetry readings, the blues to thumping rock, the gentle sounds of classical French Parisian café music, swirling, kicking, tapping, clicking dance teams, comedy performances and maybe the odd Shakespearian ode or two drifting about the town. Once you arrive in Oundle during that week, day or night, there’s no escape, you will be entertained!
Pictured above: Our good friends “The New Essex Bluegrass Band” who sadly hung up their hats at the end of the 2018 season. This Band were always firm favourites at the Orwell Festival and so it seems only right that we use this picture on the Festival post.
Over the years the Orwell Festival has grown to become one of the major Bluegrass and Old Time Festivals in the UK. Situated at the Hallowtree Scout Centre in Nacton, just outside Ipswich in Suffolk, and 3 minutes drive off the A14 the venue is very popular with festival goers. Hallowtree is a truly amazing place – an undulating wooded site of approximately 42 acres set in beautiful quiet woodland and meadows off the north shore of the Orwell estuary, with plenty of space to pitch your tent, caravan, motor home. There is a dedicated “quiet area” for those wishing to temporarily retreat from the driving musical scene! The air is full of birdsong (the early morning nightingales competing with the odd musician who refuses to go to bed!), and there is a marvellous view over the river Orwell and plenty of walks along the waterside or in the woods to enjoy. Dogs are allowed on site, but must be kept on a lead at all times, and are not allowed inside the buildings or marquees (guide dogs excepted).

It is sad to announce that 2019 will be the last Festival after 13 years. So if you have never been or are one of our stalwart attendees, this will be your last chance to enjoy the wonderful music, atmosphere and overall camaraderie and friendliness of this legendary Festival.
Time once again for a visit to the “Live Acoustic Special” in Loughborough, this time at a brand new venue. This is always a fun night and a chance for us to meet up with other musicians, singers and songwriters. All proceeds to Oxfam.
Thanks for the invite Howard, looking forward to it !
